In summary, if you love being in the nearest thing to wilderness that GB still has, in a house saturated in history and you have an attitude that does not look for fault in everything, then Barnhill is the place for you.Isle of Jura (seen from Gigha) © Robert Dallas Gray | It's rather like giving a bad review to a mountain hut high in the is what it is and one should adjust one's expectations to the reality of the remoteness of the house. I have no connection with the family who own it and must say that all my dealings were honest and straightforward with them and they made no attempt to pretend it was something that it was not. My view is that you are completely off-grid in a house that has been owned by the same family for generations who make it absolutely clear what to expect when you book. The other one star review mentioned dampness and a small fridge (amongst other things). it baffles me how the only reason given for a one star review was a fear of something bad that never happened! Then they say that 'mercifully' there weren't any. One of the one star reviews says only that they feared that there would be rats and mice. There has been one 5 star review and 2 one star reviews of people who have actually stayed in Barnhill (rather than walked past it). This may be why I totally disagree with the average star rating given. Why? Because it may be somewhere that 99% of holidaymakers may find too different and challenging. I absolutely loved my stay in Barnhill and in many ways wish it did not have a Tripadvisor listing.
